Rotaract Club of ACBT

The Rotaract Club of Australian College of Business and Technology (ACBT) Colombo was chartered on the 9th of September 2014 under the guidance of the Charter President Rtr. Inaam Ahmed. The club has had 5 amazing and dynamic presidents in its history where two Presidents have excelled themselves by being part of the District Steering Committee in the years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. During the course of the past 5 years, the club has been awarded with several recognitions for its creative and hard work put in order to serve the community in fellowship and love.

With the blessings and guidance of the past presidents, the club stepped on to its 6th year under the guidance of President Rtr. Meshach Lindon and Secretary Rtr. Apeksha Perera. In the year 2020-21, the club “Decided to Rise”. In the Rotaract Club of ACBT, as an institute-based club, they focus on developing and retaining their membership, developing fellowship and broadening their connections, managing a strong bond with the administration of their educational institute, professionally developing the members, Rotaractors and the public and also, serving the community to ensure that they have outspoken the power of Rotaract in the hearts of the people by catering to their needs for a better today. With a global pandemic coming into the midst and making the world go through changes at a fast rate, they too adapted to still take the name of Rotaract and do service above self.

Despite adapting to the new normal, they managed to conduct their signature project “Chromafest” under the International Service Avenue. The event is known to be a Holi festival where people physically gather in fellowship and play Holi or play with color powder and have a great time but this year, the project was conducted on a virtual platform where the root motive that is spreading happiness was spoken of or brought into notice. However, the year 2020-21 also raised the club’s standards by successfully conducting projects such as Thambili Night and #CelebratingHer. Thambili Night is a Club Service project conducted with the gathering of parents of the members where they give a formal introduction about the Rotaract movement to them and educate them about the benefits one gains from being a Rotaractor. #CelebratingHer is a project that focuses on women empowerment and highlights the different uncomfortable scenarios a woman goes through daily in today’s society, and why these norms should be broken. This project was showcased as a video and was able to produce over 8600 views organically.

By the 30th of May 2021, the club has had 72 active members and had conducted 52 projects successfully. The club also managed to revamp its official YouTube channel and launch a LinkedIn page. The year has been a year full of struggles, hard work, strategizing, love, care, fellowship and service. The club also was recognized during the course of the year where President Rtr. Mesahch Lindon was recognized as the ‘President of the Month’ for the month of November, Secretary Rtr. Apeksha Perera was recognized as the Secretary of the Second Quarter and Rtr. Venisha Dewasurendra was recognized as the global winner of the Voice of the Eye Speech Competition.

The Rotaract Club of ACBT outlived the theme of the year: “Decide to Rise” during the year 2020-21. With the year being completed on a very high and successful note, the club has now opened doors for its 7th year under the guidance of the President, Rtr.
