Rotaract is an international youth movement sponsored by the Rotary to empower the youth to lead positive change in communities. The movement is led by proactive and dynamic young men and women between the age of 18 – 30 years. The movement was introduced to Sri Lanka in the year 1969 and has evolved since then as a youth-led platform nurturing fellowship and leadership for social innovation in the country. Currently, the movement comprised of over 70 clubs has its footprint in several regions in the Island namely Colombo, Kandy, Kurunegala, Galle, Hatton and Jaffna.
Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives is the governing and unifying body of all the Rotaract Clubs Island wide and is headed by a District Rotaract Representative. For the Rotary year 2018/19, the movement is spearheaded by DRR Rtr. PP Amjath Yoosuf equipped with his sustainable vision of inspiring the future. He believes the Rotaractors have the potential to rise as leaders and advance sustainable change to create the future everyone aspires and deserves to have. Thus, the movement will lead its actions this year under the Rotary’s six areas of focus and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
The movement has attained its high standards and unique identity today owing to the vision, commitment and dedication of the rotaractors under the commendable leadership of the past District Rotaract Representatives. Thus, the present and future rotaractors will always be grateful for the tireless efforts of the past DRRs for laying the foundation and paving the way for many generations to spread the light of Rotaract in service.
